What is SPEAK OUT! & LOUD Crowd?

SPEAK OUT! is a therapy program specifically designed for improving voice, and swallowing of patients diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. This program teaches patients to use INTENT with all automatic tasks; therefore automatic speech is transformed into an intentional task. SPEAK OUT! is completed in 12 sessions within. a four week period. During those four weeks, our patients will learn to speak with INTENT and live with INTENT, which will improve speech, confidence, and quality of life! Once our patients have graduated from SPEAK OUT!, then they are transitioned into the LOWD Crowd.

LOUD Crowd is a group therapy program that provides maintenance on strategies and skills learned in SPEAK OUT! The LOUD Crowd meets once a week to practice daily speech exercises, target strategies required to maintain INTENT, and fellowship with others diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

The SPEAK OUT! & LOUD Crowd therapy programs were developed at the Parkinson’s Voice Project in Richardson, TX. You can visit their website by clicking HERE to learn more information.

When and Where can I receive services?

Therapy services are held at Jefferson Regional’s Professional Building 1, in the outpatient therapy department on the first floor.

I have Parkinson’s Disease. When should I begin seeing a Speech Therapist?

Studies have indicated that 89% of people with Parkinson’s Disease develop difficulty communicating and up to 95% develop difficulty swallowing. In order to delay, postpone, and prevent communicative decline and difficulty swallowing, it is important to begin speech therapy services as soon as you can. Parkinson’s Disease affects muscles involved in communication and swallowing; making them weak and under-utilizing their full capacity. SPEAK OUT! & LOUD Crowd offers a program that can improve and change deficits noticed by yourself, friends, and family. These programs teach the patient how to use muscle groups to their full capacity, with INTENT and purpose, while preventing further decline.

How can I schedule an appointment?

Your Neurologist or Primary Care Physician will send a referral request to the Jefferson Regional Outpatient Therapy Services, and you will be scheduled for an appointment from there. Please check with your insurance to determine co-pay cost associated with these services prior to your appointment.
